This chronology of the Oz books constitutes the canon of stories of the Land of Oz begun by L. Frank Baum and comprised of the Sovereign Sixty (formerly known as the Famous Forty), the Borderlands of Oz books (together with the latter called the Supreme Seventy-Five), and the many modern works which harmonize with them.
Other fantasy worlds and adventures that have been brought into continuity are represented here, some in simplified form and with their dating systems adjusted, where necessary, to fit into the scope of the Baumian/Ozian universe.* For a detailed chronology of Middle-Earth, go here.
Oz and Oz-related stories that fall outside the scope of this timeline can be found on one of several other timelines, including Parallel Histories, the Deadly Desert, Munchkinland, and Dark Side of Oz.
The listed events have been taken from Glinda's Great Book of Records.
*Although some dates from various fantasy stories are derived from Win Scott Eckert's excellent Wold Newton Universe chronology, this does not necessitate the "events" of other stories on that timeline in the reality of the Oz universe. Discrepancies in dating can be attributed to historical error, authorial error, and/or the existence of time dilations in pocket universes. |
Online stories can be accessed directly Click on titles for covers, synopsis and notes Publication dates reflect only significant editions Page numbers are based on a book's original edition Events not detailed in story are included for clarification |
